Can't believe I missed it!

I have been waiting for Pattern Review to have a shopping trip in NYC. After looking on facebook and see others talking about shopping in NYC - it hit me! Then I checked PR only to see that I had missed the shopping trip. Does anyone know if there is any alerts on PR that will notify you of up coming events? Or do I have to stay off facebook and go on PR more. LOL

If you went on the trip feel free to tell me about it.

Thanks

New Toy

Before I left for vacation, I was watching HSN (Home Shopping Network) guess what I ordered.

http://crafts-sewing.hsn.com/singer-top-of-the-line-computerized-sewing-machine_p-5480085_xp.aspx?web_id=5480085&o=emOrderConf20090820&cm_mmc=Email*OrderCnf*TV*Confirm

It comes with lots of accessories (lots of diffreent feet).
I had it shipped to my husbands job while we were away so it would be safe. lol
Hubby goes back to work on monday. I will be waitin' patiently.

Vacation

The family has been on vacation. We went on a cruise to Canada. Visited St. John and Halifax (Novia Scotia). The weather in St.John was misty rain and chilly. Halifax was beautiful weather. We went the local mall - my daughter made out like a bandit. I was told that there was a local fabric store but I never found it. After shopping we decided to walk back to the pier. It was about a mile back to the ship. Lovely homes, clean city, just no fabric stores.

Next projects

I was asked to make neck ties and sashes for the youth choir at my church. I have made bow ties before. No problem. I purchase a tie pattern Mc Calls 2447. I cut out the ties - then sat down to sew.......yes I got this - " so I thought to myself", until I got to second step. Any way not to bore you all - I purchase ANOTHER tie pattern - its much easier. when I am done I will post a pic.

Up late - and tired

It's been a month since I have last blogged. However, I have been checking out other blogs. Lots of you have such beautiful projects going on. I have been working on cleaning and reorganizing my sewing room but to no avail. So, I guess as long as I know where everything is I will manage.

I am exhausted today, we had our annual Church Barbecue. It took lots of planning and hard work but we had a great time. Lots of food and good old fashion fun. I didn't have time to take any pictures because I was working the grill and organizing food.

I believe everyone had a great time and certainly all were full when the left.

Big ups to my church family! - Refuge Church of Christ.

Organizing my sewing room

I have been trying to organize my sewing room. It seems as though I have been doing this for months or maybe even years. lol If I could only stop shopping. My new plan is to sew more and shop less. lol

My only other option has been to donate or give away some things. I have been giving things to my church, girl scouts and a old neighbor who sews. I recently received a sewing basket that belonged to one of my aunts who passed away. I am going to take pics of the what was inside.
Stay tuned--you will be surprised.

Dress for my DD

We had Woman's Day at Church. The attire was white outfit with black accessories. I found this simple pattern (New Look 6885).

Here is my DD in her dress. I used white cotton eyelet. The only adjustment I had to make was , adding a heavier lining in the skirt part of the dress. It looks really pretty on her. She advised with making all the alterations. I did have to cut off about 3 inches for the hem.

Huge picture

OMG! I was trying to add a new pic to the header to my blog. Does anyone know how I can decrease the size of this pic. I tried to remove it but my computer seems to have frozen. I am going to log out and try to return a decrease the pic size before anyone sees it. lol

Blast from the past

This is my lovely God-daughter (10 years old). She is wearing a dress that I made for her sister when was she was 10 years old or so. Her sister is now 15, and the dress is still alive and well. Please notice the matching lollipop, lol.

Purchases from the Sewing Expo !

These are the John Deer " In the hoop" Embroidery kits :tissue cover, note pad, check book

Tag a long - Embroidered tags

I got renewals for my sew news & creative subscription at a great discount. I also purchased a few yards of a white rayon from Vogue Fabrics (they had a large vendor both with a big variety of items.

Floriani have every type of stabilizer you could think of.

Sulky had a special because they are changing their packaging A bundle of 6 stabilizer cost 36.00. There is a lot of yardage on each roll.

This pattern is for coat but I saw it sewn-up in the vendors booth. It had embroidery around the collar across the hem. It can be worn as a top for a clergy woman.

I purchased this iron also, the actual part that irons is about 4 inches long . The handle is very sturdy.

This is just a tote bag that they gave me when I picked up my registration packet. It was big enough to carry all of my goodies & more.

Lastly, this is a bonding agent that will bond anything & also does repairs on torn fabric.

The making of a diaper cake.

A girlfriend of mine is having her first baby & look what I made as a gift--- a diaper cake.
The pictures in reverse - sorry. I thought the pics would up load in the order that I picked them. Anyway, this is the finished product. I also made the lollipops.

It's not in the picture but I topped it off with a gift card to Babies R Us.

Sewing Expo in Worcester MA

I must begin by saying I had a ball!! I took 4 classes.
1- Notion Commotion -the instructor showed the lastest in notions. Of course, they were all available from the vendors.
2- Serger 911- the instructor spoke about a few things that could go wrong with your serger like burrs ( which is a nick in the lower looper. She told about a inexpensive way to repair them.
3- Marketing - she spoke about how to market your crafts/patterns ,she also had good information concerning trademarks

Lastly, I took a 3hr embroidery class entitled "In the hoop" this was a John Deer embroidery project . Amazingly enough the entire project is made in the hoop of the embroidery machine. We were supposed to complete 3 items but we only completed 2, a wallet, and a card case. We got to take home the materials & instruction for the 3rd project which is a cellphone case.

I was amazed at the fact that the insertion of the zipper for the wallet was done "in the hoop". The only time we took anything off the embroidery hoop was when the project was finished . When we removed the project from the hoop all that needed to be done was to fold it inside out.

I will post pics of the items I purchased soon.
Sulky had a great deal on stabilizers(the Notion Comm, teacher said that Sulky is getting new packaging so they are selling old packaging at a nice discount.
Brought 1 pattern, notions and embroidery programs.

Oh, hubby came to showroom on the last day, he spent most of his time studying for an accounting test.

They raffled of 2 or 3 top of the line sewing machines each day.

Did I win one, NO, but a 12 year old who was sitting right next to me did win.
Maybe next year.

Going to Sewing Expo !!

For years I have been wanting to go the Sewing & Quilting Expo. Thanks to some fellow sewing bloggers who went to the Expo in GA. I registered for 3 classed, Serging 911, Notion Commotion, and an class on embroidering ( this class is hands-on) can't wait to see how my project will turn out.

Well, I feel like I am back on the blogging block. I appreciate all of you for sharing your skills and most of all for your sewinspiration. lol

I will be posting soon about my experience at the Expo.

BTW , yep hubby is going - the drive is a little over 3 hours.

Chow for now

Embroidered Patch

I made a embroidered frame, cut it out & used fusible web to iron the patch onto the bag. ( a permanent bond)
This is a pic of the trial patch.

Just a note to say I have been viewing blogs & getting inspired. I have several projects on the table. Here is a pic of one I am trying to complete by tomorrow. My Church is having a Banquet to honor those who assist our Pastors. Some people call them Armour Bearers or Adjutants. There are 14 Adjutants being honored and as a gift they are receiving a bag loaded with things that help them do their job. My job in this effort is to find a way to embroidery the word "Adjutant" on the tote bag.

However, the bag has multiple compartments that make it impossible to put the bag on a hoop. So, here is what I came up with.

Never leave your hubby alone with your PC.

OMG!! I sat down to view my blog & check out some friends. When I went to my favorites - which links me directly to my blog, guess what???? A blank blogger page came up with his name as a blogger. At first I panicked , I thought all was lost. After a phone call & a big apology I calmed down enough to figure out what happened.

Some people wanna be "Like Mike". lol

I think he better stick to dropping me off at the fabric stores. Tonight he is going to get a one on one lesson in blogging.

Feeling calm now. :-))))

I can find a fabric store anywhere!

We are on vacation, went to the movies, shopped around and then......I looked across the road & what did I see JOANN'S FABRICS. My kids sighed and my hubby pulled over. Now I have been in Joann's many times but this was Joann's SUPER STORE. The cutting table had a "take a number system", so you can continue to shop while waiting for someone to cut your fabric. This way you are not just waiting in line. This store was twice or three times the size of the Joann's where I usually shop. Although I could have stayed longer, I did find a few things on sale & picked up a pattern I was trying to find.

The truth be told , I could have stayed longer. LOL

Oh, the store is Exton,PA

Crocheted Hat

I crocheted a hat this weekend also. I found a free crochet pattern online. It took me a few hours to complete it. I am also in the middle of crocheting a baby sweater. I will take pics soon. I enjoy crocheting because I can carry it with me where ever I go. Also, if the project is small - it gives me instant gradification.

A skirt for the Princess

I made a skirt for the Princess this weekend. I finally made a skirt with a enclosed zipper. Yahhoo! No more exposed zippers. It was not as hard as I thought it would be. I normally lay the zipper in the seam - sew it in place & then use the seam ripper to expose the zipper. The pattern I used was Mc Calls # 5523. I believe this will be a TNT pattern.

Pics from Meet-up shopping trip

Famous for Strawberry Cheese cake!

Oh, me & "The Princess" went to Junior's for their famous Strawberry Cheese Cake.

NYC Sewing Meet-Up

I had a ball!!! First of all , it was nice to be in the city & the weather was great! The ladies in the Meet-up group were very nice. We met at a coffee shop for some sewing/crocheting chit chat and there was a pattern & notion swap. There were a few Burda magazines & some trim (that I got from my stash).

Then it was off to the stores. Of course, I purchased some fabric. I also found Burda patterns for 2.00. What a bargain! I found a store that had applique lace by the yard. I was short on time so I only visited 2 stores but I am sure I will be going back. There are so many fabric & trim stores.

Oh, I didn't mention that my dd aka "The Princess" went with me. She was interested in fabric for her sweet sixteen celebration that is coming up this year.
I am putting the pics in the next blog (only because when I upload them the always go to the top of the blog & never were I what them to land). lol
**Hint - Hint , If someone knows how to make the pics upload under the paragraph (please help me)

Thanks to my fellow blogger Wannasew, I found a sewing Meet-up group in my area. I will be going to the garment district in NYC. Check back for updates.

I have been sewing, just haven't had time to download pics yet.

Until next time.
