There is not a day that goes by that i don't THINK about sewing. Whether it's looking up new patterns, the latest notions, reading a sewing or embroidery magazine.....I could go on and on.
However, today I'm spending the afternoon sitting outside with my mommy. Enjoying the weather , watching cars go by , looking at the people as they walk up and down the street. It's been a long journey but I'm grateful that she is here (some days more than others)lol. She has and is still an example of grace and poise. Now that the shoe is on the other foot and mom lives her golden years I will be right here to did what she helped me to do .......LIVE!!

African print skirt
I made this skirt for my daughter. I used Simpicity 1365 skirt pattern, but I made a few changes. I lengthened the waist to make it a high waisted skirt. It took a little work to cut pattern out so that the motif in the fabric matched.

Back in the saddle again!!
It's been a while....
Moving forward.....
I've managed to take care of my mom and to get back to sewing. This pictures are of gowns that I made for a Princess Program at my Church. The program was developed to build character and self-esteem of young girls. The dresses were made from McCall 6399 which is a pattern for a top. However , I added a skirt to lengthen it to make is a gown. I added a belt , rhinestone buckle , and faux fur to the collar and cuffs.

I had a great time working with these young ladies !! They are truly gems, each in their own right.
The little girl in the white dress was the Princess in waiting , lol ! She was little too young for the Princess Program but she wanted to participate. Which of course boosted her confidence! Her dress was made from New Look for Kids 6738 ( which has been discontinued).
The dresses were worn at a Cotillion dinner held in their honor.

Sewing Expo in Baltimore
I attended the Sewing Expo in Balitmore this past May 2013. I had a chance to take some great classes, embroidery, sewing notions and a couple of business orientated classes. I really enjoyed the hands on embroidery class and I learned alot from the other classes. The notion commotion class cause me to spend some money, lol. There was a booth set up to help sew for Dress for Success - I got a chance to help sew for a woman who will be going back into the work force. It was a chance to learn and meet some new and old friends. I was so happy to meet " T" whom I have watched from afar (blogging) .... as Wendy Williams would say " my sewing freind in my head", she is a gem. I felt like I had met before.
Life happens....
It's good to be able to get back to blogging. I have been m.i.a for a good while, however I still enjoy viewing other blogs. I've been taking care of my mom for a few years now. Alzheimers Disease is a constant debilatating disease. Even though I have some help but it doesn't take take away from the pain of watching my mom. I find my faith in God to be my biggest source of strength. Everyday He gives me the strength and courage to keep going. Having family support is so important...although not constant it means the world. I have been able to keep my Gift basket business going and manage to keep up with what's going on in the sewing world. I don't plan on being away from my blog this long again. Until then ......
